Infiniti’s small car project is on track to be previewed by a concept at next spring’s Geneva motor show, according to well placed sources.
Nissan’s luxury division is said to be preparing a style-led three-door, possibly mixing coupé cues with a measure of hatchback practicality in the same manner as Mercedes’ soon-to-be-discontinued CLC. It’s likely to be based on a front-drive platform sourced from the next-gen A-class as part of a tie-up between Daimler and the Renault-Nissan alliance.

Insiders have now revealed that Geneva showgoers will be given an early sight of the car, which is regarded by Infiniti as a crucial model as it aims to crack western Europe. The car could then be revealed in production form next autumn, at either the Frankfurt or Tokyo motor show.
“Next year’s Geneva concept will be something pretty special, and pretty different,” said a source. “It’s a small car, but not what you might expect.”

Insiders also say the concept will be “close” to the production car. It’s likely the styling for both is being overseen by Infiniti designers working at the firm’s studio near Paddington in London.
Meanwhile, the new diesel-powered Infiniti M30d is expected to make up about 55 per cent of the model’s sales across western Europe, but the firm admits that figure could be as high as 80 per cent in some markets. Infiniti hopes to sell around 2000 examples of the car in Europe next year.

Infiniti's design chief says that the upcoming high-performance electric model due in 2013 will come pretty close in design to a sketch that the brand released earlier this year.

In an interview with Automotive News Europe, Infiniti's head of design, Shiro Nakamura, said that the model that his team wants to take to production will stay faithful to what they originally conceived.

"I like the sketch. The sketch conveys the image of what we would like to achieve. That is the image in our minds," Nakamura told Automotive News Europe.

The five-seat performance sedan will be the premium marque's first all-electric vehicle. Nakamura said that the EV model will be consistent with Infiniti's design paradigm but will feature a shorter bonnet.

Nakamura did not reveal any details about the drivetrain. The EV's electric-drive set-up will be roughly based on the Nissan Leaf but, obviously, will have to feature more power than that model.

Asked what he believes distinguishes Infiniti design from its European competitors, Nakamura replied:

"What is the difference when compared with a German brand? I would say we are more humanistic and warm. The Germans are very good, but we want Infiniti to be a more emotional and humanistic brand."

Describing his designs, Nakamure continued, "For example, from the FX and the M we see inspiration from an ocean wave. I want people to get the power-from-nature feeling."

Segundo esta e outras notícias (já confirmadas) a Infiniti irá brevemente apresentar um rival para o segmento C premium onde se situam o A3 e o Série 1. O acordo de 2010 entre a Renault/Nissan e a Daimler proporcionará que a construtora nipónica tenha acesso aos motores diesel e gasolina de 4 cilindros da construtora germânica.

A influência do concept Infiniti Essence é bem notória a toda a linha.

The highly stylised concept is 4.4m long and Infiniti says it blends qualities of coupé, saloon, hatchback and crossover – thanks to its raised ride height and large carbonfibre-trimmed alloys - in “one highly sculptural, near-mono volume form”. The hi-tech Etherea will feature quality Japanese materials and finishes in its interior.
The badge on the side of the car reveals it to be a hybrid, which Autocar has previously learned from sources in Japan will be a four-cylinder petrol-electric drivetrain with hybrid technology, borrowed from the firm’s new M35h. The production version is likely to be offered with turbocharged four-cylinder engines from Mercedes.

The production Etherea is likely to be based on the Renault-Nissan’s new C-platform that will underpin around 1.5 million cars per year across the Alliance, including the next Mégane.
Infiniti says the “practical” concept features “a new mechanical layout”. It also says there are “innovative access arrangements”, which suggests the doors could be rear hinged with access only from the inside.
An insider says the Etherea is not destined for production until 2014 at the earliest, a year after Infiniti launches its own luxury electric car based on the Nissan Leaf.

Ora aqui está para já uma das criaturas mais interessantes a aparecer para Geneve.
Não aprecio pessoalmente muitos elementos no carro, mas de um modo geral, é um daqueles casos em que o todo é bem melhor que a soma das partes.

Apesar de ser um concept, o modelo de série que derivará dele deverá ser muito semelhante no que toca a volumetria geral e superficies.
Um pouco como aconteceu com a passagem do Lexus Ct-200h à produção. Só que a principal diferença entre estes 2 aspirantes a "compactos" premium, é que o infiniti tem um desenho base, proporções e superfícies bastante melhor resolvidos, o que dá espaço de manobra para se estragar algumas partes sem perder muita piada na avaliação global do desenho

Um pouco como aconteceu como a transição do qazana-juke.

Discordo por completo. Aliás, acho que o protótipo tem elementos e detalhes extremamente interessantes... mas de forma isolada. Juntos, no todo, dão neste trambolho, perfeitamente atroz. O desenho deste Infiniti está ao nível do (também mau) Lada Peter Turbo de 2000.

Mais sobre este compacto da Infiniti que promete dar que falar... na Europa. Acho o modelo muito bonito e elegante com formas que deixam antever um modelo de produção apelativo.

Isto não é ainda o produto final, pelo que até lá, o carro deverá ser modificado, como é óbvio.

De qualquer maneira, não posso dizer que seja particularmente bonito.

Por ser futurista e "diferente" (não que tenha algum handicap), creio que venha a ter sucesso no nosso mercado, que já está farto de linhas rectas e prefere cada vez mais a fluidez (veja-se os modelos mais recentes, de 2009 para cima).

Quando eu me refiro a "sucesso", significa que irá vender.

Isto porque, a Infiniti é uma marca rara no nosso quotidiano, e até à data não conseguiu tirar o lugar ao trio germânico (assim bem como a Lexus, por exemplo).

De longe querer estar a desvalorizar a Lexus e a Infiniti, mas na maior parte das vezes, quem compra são os olhos e o coração, e não a cabeça.

Não tinha reparado nisto... o Lada Peter turbo? a sério? a colocar os 2 no mesmo saco? beeem.... ui...Também às vezes exagero para dar uma ideia mais concreta daquilo que estou a afirmar, mas, poxa, não exageremos tanto assim

Apesar de não ir com a cara dos Infiniti ~(este parece ter algo de bulldog acerca dele... estranho), sobretudo aquela grelha monstra, no geral continuo a achar que temos boas possibilidades de ter um Infiniti mais compacto com bastante mais potencial de sair coisa interessante que o trabalho que a Lexus efectuou com o Ct200

Os contornos gerais são bastante interessante, com o tejadilho a fazer um arco quase perfeito. Não cai no hatch clássico, nem no sedan, sendo algo ali pelo meio, do género fastback.
Tem alguma modelação que se pode considerar excessiva, sobretudo aquelas "pregas" que nascem na frente e desenvolvem-se dramaticamente pela lateral, e ainda não consegui engolir aquele pilar C (nem no Essence) mas no geral, a Infiniti a conseguir algo bem estruturado, proporcionado e com personalidade e até, muito "trendy", com o seu lado aparente "crossover".

Muy interessante. Critico sobretudo algumas partes ou pormenores, mas no geral, nota positiva

Infiniti ETHEREA: The Compact Luxury Car Re-imagined

The Infiniti ETHEREA, a special concept vehicle designed to preview how a future Infiniti entry-level compact performance luxury sedan could look, made its world debut today at the 81st International Geneva Motor Show. ETHEREA is designed to project both an "evolving Infiniti identity" and a profile that is distinctly different from any current vehicle available in the premium compact class.

"ETHEREA is about a new type of luxury for younger buyers," said Toru Saito, Corporate Vice President and leader of the Global Infiniti Business Unit. "It is not just a smaller version of a typically conservative and traditional luxury car."

Designed under the direction of Senior Vice President of Design Shiro Nakamura, ETHEREA blends elements of coupe, sedan, hatchback and even crossover designs in one highly sculptural, near-mono volume form.

At just over 14 feet in length, ETHEREA is highly compact but at the same time it is space efficient and practical – thanks to a new mechanical layout and innovative access arrangements. Among its surprises are new high-tech interpretations of traditional Japanese materials and finishes, and several design cues set to make their mark on future production models, including the highly distinctive crescent-shaped C-pillar first seen on the Infiniti Essence concept.

ETHEREA's segment-busting appeal is based on the coming together of several vehicles styles. It is part elegant coupe, part spacious sedan, part practical hatchback and even part tall crossover. And being an Infiniti, there is also a large helping of sports car in the way it drives. The front-wheel drive ETHEREA concept has been designed for a potent yet highly efficient hybrid drivetrain based around the innovative one electric motor/twin clutch system used in the new Infiniti M Hybrid.

A supercharged 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine, developing 245 horsepower, provides quick response and strong acceleration throughout the performance range. Boosting power when more is needed, and providing silent, emission-free driving at low speeds, is an electric motor. The transmission is a continuously variable (CVT) type. An independent suspension, regenerative braking and advanced drive-by-wire electric/hydraulic steering further enhance performance.

The spacious four-seat ETHEREA cabin offers all the luxury that Infiniti owners expect, plus unrivalled ease of access and egress boosted by an H-point, which is higher than that of the average compact luxury car. Four wide-opening doors, rear-hinged at the back, and an absence of B-pillar offer an unprecedented feeling of openness.

As an exploration of a future entry-level Infiniti production model, ETHEREA can be summed up as a four-door coupe with five-door practicality – a hatchback that doesn't look like a hatchback.

Recuerdas el Etherea de Infiniti? Su versión de producción, que llegará al mercado en 2014 como un monovolumen "crossoverizado" con un SUV, contará al final con plataforma Mercedes-Benz, nada menos. Se ha podido saber en Frankfurt ayer por la tarde que la casa de la estrella cederá su plataforma MFA, utilizada en la nueva Clase B y en toda una nueva ola de compactos, para que los chicos de la división de lujo de Nissan puedan contar con una base sólida sobre la que crear un producto auténticamente premium.

Y es que la idea original era utilizar la base del Nissan Qashqai II que está en desarrollo, pero los acuerdos entre Renault-Nissan y Daimler han permitido prescindir de esa base y usar una diseñada en Stuttgart.

El Etherea de producción también contará con motores diésel y gasolina compartidos con Mercedes, así que... ¿qué más se puede pedir a este nipón europeizado?

O Infiniti Etherea e o novo Classe A serão irmãos de plataforma

Cualquier parecido entre el nuevo Mercedes Clase A y el Infiniti Etherea... ¿no es mera coincidencia? Car & Driver

publica que finalmente el próximo compacto de tracción delantera de Infiniti obtendrá su plataforma de Mercedes, y más concretamente de la renovación del que hasta ahora era su modelo más pequeño, el Clase A. Así ha sido confirmado por Nissan a la publicación estadounidense, validando los rumores de los últimos meses.

El nuevo Clase A, ya lo sabes, cambiará su actual tipología de monovolumen pequeño para adoptar un aspecto hatchback al estilo de coches como el Serie 1 en busca de una mayor aceptación, lo que hará más fácil el desarrollo del nuevo compacto de Infiniti. ¿Pero qué ha podido propiciar esta insólita alianza?

Así como Nissan tiene una amplia experiencia desarrollando compactos de tracción delantera y los ingenieros de Mercedes no son precisamente mancos, hay una serie de factores a considerar: el primero es que a Infiniti no le sirve ni en broma un Tiida recauchutado, dado que como ha indicado el vicepresidente de Nissan, un vehículo de las características del Etherea requiere una rigidez torsional y un refinamiento genuinamente premium; el segundo, que a diferencia de lo que sucede con Audi y BMW, que pueden amortizar rápidamente cualquier desarrollo compartiendo plataformas con sus filiales (SEAT/Skoda/VW en el caso de VAG, y MINI en el de BMW), Daimler está sola. Y además, no tiene miedo de la posible competencia de Infiniti, dado que todavía es una marca relativamente pequeña y tiene una clientela distinta.

En otras palabras, que uno rasca la espalda del otro, y todos tan felices.

SegúnCar & Driver, aunque el Etherea de producción compartirá plataforma con el compacto de Merche, será de todas formas un coche visualmente muy distinto, como corresponde a todo Infiniti. ¿Y los motores? ¿Serán también Mercedes como se rumoreaba? El tiempo lo dirá. Lo que te podemos asegurar ya es que tenemos unas ganas locas de ver el "aparato" finalizado...

Magna Steyr fabricará o compacto da Infiniti

De acuerdo con Automotive News, la versión de producción del

Infiniti Etherea

, el compacto de la marca de lujo de Nissan, será producido por

Magna Steyr

en Graz (donde no hace mucho tiempo se montaba, por cierto, el Boxster). El nuevo compacto, basado en la plataforma MFA de Mercedes, la misma de los nuevos

Clase B

y

Clase A

, tendrá una producción de entre 50.000 y 60.000 unidades anuales como tope.

De esta manera Nissan no tendrá que crear unas nuevas instalaciones para fabricar este coche, y se defenderá de su posible fallo comercial subcontratando su producción. De esta forma llegan a su fin los rumores de que el primer modelo de Infiniti para Europa se construiría a través de una fábrica propia.

Depois das datas de 2014 e 2012 oficiosas, eis que surge a data oficial do novo premium nipónico do segmento C a chegar ao mercado europeu, mas com motores diesel da Mercedes.
Mais variedade de escolha será bom. Esperemos que em termos estéticos seja atrativo. Aguardemos.

Infiniti confirma que cpmeçará a fabricar o Etherea em 2014 com a ajuda da Magna

Sabíamos que Nissan había alcanzado un acuerdo con Magna para fabricar el primer hatchback compacto de Infiniti en territorio austriaco, y ahora es oficial. La compañía japonesa ha firmado un memorando de entendimiento con Magna Steyr que sitúa la producción del Etherea en el año 2014, sin dar en cualquier caso un mes concreto para lanzamiento comercial de este modelo. Esta es una muy buena noticia, dado que noticias anteriores lo ponían nada menos que en 2016.

Infiniti, que confía en el Etherea para seducir a la clientela de Europa Occidental, contará de esta forma con un compacto al uso capaz de arañar ventas a colosos como el Audi A3 y el BMW Serie 1, que se reparten las ventas como si no hubiera competencia. Mercedes, socia de Renault-Nissan en esta aventura, debería ofrecer a Infiniti la plataforma del nuevo Clase A para elaborar la versión de producción del Etherea, así como muy probablemente alguna de sus mecánicas.

Infiniti has been relatively quiet about their upcoming entry-level model but new details are starting to emerge about the 2015 Q30.
Designed to slot beneath the redesignedQ50, the Q30 will reportedly come equipped with a three-way adjustable ride height system that will enable the model to have the benefits of both a car and a crossover. Little else is known about the system but Nissan executive vice president Andy Palmer told Autocar the model will battle the Audi A3 and Q3.

As we have previously reported, the Q30 was previewed by the Etherea concept and is expected to ride on the Mercedes MFA platform that underpins the A- and B-Class. The model will be built in Sunderland, England and Infiniti hopes to sell 60,000 units annually.
