Bentley Plans to Add Diesel Engines to Line Up
About two years ago we reported that Bentley cars would not have a diesel engine under their bonnet any time soon. It looks like the automotive world is capable of changing rapidly, because the latest news states the complete opposite. Instead of offering only hybrids in the near future, the Brits will also offer diesel engines.
Outgoing Bentley and Bugatti CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer confirmed to Car and Driver that diesel engines are not only an option for the upcoming SUV – based on the EXP 9 F Concept – but also for the next generation of sedans. He even said that prototype vehicles are already running. According to the US magazine, Bentley will use engines from within the Audi portfolio. The Audi V12 TDI is not being considered for Bentley models, but the 400hp V8 TDI is.
Dürheimer also confirmed to Car and Driver that future Bentley models will be available with a plug-in hybrid option, including the new SUV. The traditional 6¾-liter V8 is getting closer to end of life for a second time. Launched in 1959, the L series engine was discarded in 1998 when Bentley was under BMW’s ownership. VW—Bentley’s new owner—reinstalled the traditional unit in the Arnage Red Label, after BMW swapped it for one of their own powertrains. VW now axes the engine again because of environmental and emission reasons.
Bentley announces Mulsanne Vision Concept, a new flagship drop-top
The arrival of the all-new flagship Bentley Mulsanne sedan in 2010 (for the 2011 model year) marked the departure of the range-topping Azure convertible, leaving the Continental GTC range as the automaker's only open-roof models.
Bentley's big convertible program took a huge leap forward this past weekend at Pebble Beach when the automaker allowed a select few to view its Mulsanne Vision Concept, a possible successor to the discontinued Azure. Unfortunately, Bentley refused to allow photography and will not be releasing pictures – only the sketch above, and those in our gallery, are offered for your consumption.
On the positive side, Autoblog did see the four-place convertible in the flesh and we found it every bit as spectacular as the sketches. The Mulsanne-based concept features a steeply raked windshield, a chopped wheelbase (about six inches shorter) and two lengthened doors to bring all the proportions in properly (the inside panels of the doors have two latches on each interior panel, so rear seat passengers may open them from the inside as well). In addition to the sharp hydroformed aluminum panels, there are LED accent lights on the top of the rear decklid. The interior seats four passengers comfortably, with a sea of soft leather, polished stainless steel and signature wood.
Even though Bentley says its designers are "providing a glimpse into the potential future of the marque's flagship family," we say the Vision concept is much closer to production than they would lead us to believe. Its power-operated roof mechanism (seemingly lifted from the Azure) worked flawlessly, as did all switchgear (including the unique interior door handles) and lights. We expect Bentley will reveal its newest star at an Show full PR text

Bentley Rumored to Debut New Sports Car Concept in Paris - Carscoop
An unnamed Bentley source has told Car and Driver that the company plans to present an all-new sports car concept at the 2012 Paris Auto Show later next month.
No other details were released about the study, though the magazine points out that it is designed to "underscore the brand’s sporting aspirations," adding that it will likely be the sportiest model to wear the British company's badge since the 1999 Bentley Hunaudières concept.
Earlier this year, Bentley CEO Wolfgang Duerheimer had revealed that the company had previously considered a sports car concept but had decided to go in a different direction with the EXP 9 F SUV because it felt that such a model "would have had the Porsche 911 Turbo as opposition", something that the automaker didn't want.
It remains unknown at this time if Bentley and consequently, the VW Group that also owns Porsche, reconsidered or if the rumored Paris Motor Show concept belongs in a different category than the 911.
Bentley Mulsanne cabrio 'to cost £275k'
Outgoing boss Wolfgang Dürheimer called it “a pinnacle car” for Bentley, although sources say it’s nearly two years from production, even if a quick decision is made.
A mock-up of the cabrio was shown at the recent Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance to gauge selected customers’ views on interior and exterior finishes and new materials as part of the on-going development process.
The car’s interior could also be made more distinct from that of the Mulsanne saloon.
According to insiders, the cabrio will use the saloon’s unique platform, reduced in wheelbase by around 150mm. It will still be lengthy between the wheels at 3.1m, though, allowing a roomy rear cabin.
The convertible’s windscreen will also be marginally lower. Although it’s expected to share front-end styling with the saloon, it will be unique from the A-pillars rearwards. Lengthy new frameless doors and a fabric roof have been engineered and the rear wings feature a styling flourish closely associated with the 1950s Bentley R Type.
Although the Mulsanne’s classic twin-turbo 6.75-litre V8 engine will initially be the mainstay powerplant, a new V12 (see story, right) could become an option for both cabrio and saloon.
Sources say as many as 250 Mulsanne convertibles could be made each year, with the US being by far the most important market.

672 cv e 780 Nm
One of Mansory's offerings for the 2013 Geneva Motor Show is this Bentley Continental GT-based Sanguis.
The star of the tuner's stand in Geneva this year will certainly be the Carbonadobased on the Lamborghini Aventador, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't have a look at this modified Continental GT. It comes with a new front apron with built-in daytime running lights, a carbon fiber hood, side sills and carbon fiber front wing.
Compared to the standard model, the Carbonado is 50mm wider at the front and 60mm at the back. It has also received a different rear apron which makes room for the custom exhaust system. Other modifications include a sports air filter, ten double-spoke 22-inch wheels and several interior enhancements like new leather, wood trim, aluminum pedals and door sills.
The engine has also been upgraded and it now churns 672 HP (494 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 780 Nm (575 lb-ft) at 1,700 rpm. The Mansory Sanguis can run to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.5 seconds before hitting a top speed of 200 mph (322 km/h).
